When Gabe’s parents visited us last year, his father and I had a debate as to how Magic Shell ice cream topping works. We scoured the ingredients on the label and decided that the key ingredient must be coconut oil, which is solid at room temperature. “But surely,” I thought, “there’s gotta be more to it, right?”
Nope, it’s that easy! 8 oz. chocolate + 2 Tbs. coconut oil = magic shell!
I’ve never been a huge fan of the stuff, but Gabe sure loves it. And I do have to admit that it’s kind of fun to pour the chocolate sauce over ice cream and watch it harden. Pretty magical, huh?
Homemade Magic Shell Topping
- 8 oz. (1 1/3 cups) chocolate chips
- 2 Tbs. coconut oil
Place coconut oil in double boiler and melt completely. Place chocolate chips in double boiler with the oil. Gently melt chocolate until nice and smooth. Let cool for about 10-15 minutes and then drizzle on your favorite ice cream.
